MOON AT DAWN : POEM FOR JAMES SINGLADOR PHOTOGRAPHY

"Moon at Dawn" by James Singlador

Sa Ilalim ng Bilog na Buwan

Sa ilalim ng bilog na buwan
Kung saan paparating ang umaga
Hinabi ko ang diwang nasasaloob
At nadama ang kakaibang hiwaga
May pag-ibig na sumilay sa puso
At ang lamig ng hanging parating
Ay nagbigay pag-asa sa mga hinaing
Sa ilalim ng bilog na buwan
Isinilang ang katanungan
At naghilom ang damdaming sugatan.

My English Translation:

Under the full moon
Before the breaking of dawn
I have contemplated
And saw the mysteries
Love, I felt
The coldness of the wind
Has given hope to all my qualms
Under the full moon
Questions are born
And gave relief to my wounded soul.

AL AIN PARADISE : FOR THE LOVER OF BLOOMS

Al Ain, known as the Oasis city of UAE has achieved another international landmark by organising an exhibit of hanging flower baskets in a number that has never been displayed anywhere in the world and has achieved the Guinness Book of World Records. Some 2,500 baskets filled with colourful flowers are arranged in a fabulous way in the show called Al Ain Paradise.

Vertical landscaping technologies have been used to create the 2,500 flower baskets that have set a brand new world record by a safe margin. Al Ain Paradise covers an area of 70,000 square meters, including the corridors and walkways. The baskets are off different types and shapes with many kinds of flowers. I have seen also the 12-meter high replica of the Eiffel Tower.

Some 25 varieties of flowers from America, Europe, Japan, Germany, and Italy are present in the garden.

Al Ain has earlier twice won second position in the Nations in Bloom – an international competition to select leading cities around the globe for good landscape management and environmental practices. Every year in the Spring Season, the city wears an attire of millions of flowers blooming all around.

WALLEI'S POEM FOR EDWIN S. LOYOLA'S PHOTOGRAPHY

FLY FOR PEACE

In a serene sky
Two wings are used to fly
Simultaneously with the wind
Just fly, float and fly
Searching for peace
In a celestial sphere
Looking for happiness
For heart's desire
Love for mankind.

Filipino Version:

KAMPAY SA KAPAYAPAAN

Sa payapang langit
Ikinukumpas ang dalawang pakpak
Kasabay ng ihip ng hangin
Lumilipad, kumakampay
Hinahanap ang dakilang laya
Sa payapang kalawakan
Inaarok ang kaligayahan
Para sa pusong magmamahal.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE

I really believe in the power of community prayer and I hope that together, our intentions can bring some hope and relief to those who lost their loved ones, hurt, experiencing fear... Let us all pray for Japan,  our country, for the world and let there be Peace, let there be Love...

EDWIN S. LOYOLA: A MAN BEHIND CREATIVE IDEAS AND PHILANTHROPIC UNDERTAKING

Multi-awarded photographer Edwin S. Loyola is hailed as the "Dark Artist" for his penchant for dark tones. A veteran at staging exhibitions, Loyola is self-taught and embodies what passion for the craft involves--- by relying on instincts to create a work of art. The range and dimension to which he expresses his creativity is evident in his portfolio, where one will find a spectrum of ordinary elements turned into extra-ordinary images. Loyola is a proponent and a staunch advocate of giving back what God has provided, using his talents to create art, whose main beneficiaries are the charities he supports.

Edwin says: “I am a creator, who not only takes photos, but makes them.”

With a clear mind and vision, with passion and heart coming together in one single moment such as the clicking of the camera, the good manifests itself. And by good, I don’t mean the literal  'good and bad'.
I mean --- the vision that I see when I take a subject in its pure, unobstructed form; the vision I have that will hopefully encourage your interpretations.

Edwin continues: "In my work, the world becomes a wonderful display of perceptions, of expressions, of a realm of contemplative photography where people should become more available to the things all around us --- free of any prejudice, free of any predispositions.

I intend to present, through this medium, a natural world made more beautiful by how it is interpreted.”

"An opportunity to change the course of your life, such as leaving everything that is familiar in order to start anew abroad, can bring both excitement and anxiety. Sometimes, even when met with preparedness, a change like this is so overwhelming that it leaves you dead on your tracks. But for Edwin Loyola, the move became a monumental challenge to pursue, create and inspire. After receiving his petition from his father in 2008, Loyola, then already established as one of Philippine's multi-awarded artist/photographer, uprooted to California and there, set up shop. While keeping focus on his personal endeavors, he also started retaining clients, working as a photographer for portraits, debuts or weddings. Still, he says, the craft remains first and foremost, a hobby. Fueled by America's beautiful sights and sceneries, Loyola makes it a point to enrich his skills by going on frequent trips, where he documents this by taking impressive photographs. The most memorable trips for him were those visits to Yosemite in 2008, where he stood and took a photo of the exact spot where Ansel Adams also stood; and trips to Mono Lake and the ghost town of Bodie in 2010, which he met with eager eyes, much like any first-timer.

Loyola has also started exploring with shooting using just an iPhone4, while saving the DSLR for just the big events. Because of the gadget's functionality, practicality and portability, his creativity and artistry is moving him to the next level where ultimately and hopefully, he will be able to fulfil his dreams as a cinematographer and filmmaker.

Tagged as the Dark Artist, this 2005 National Geographic awardee, is also blessed with a good heart. Loyola left one special thing behind in the Philippines before departing to America. He has actually established "Save Kids With Cancer", a charitable beneficiary aiding impoverished families. For the most part, when someone takes an interest and proposes to buy his photographs, the proceeds go to these kids' treatments and medicines. To further help the kids even while he is thousands of miles away, Loyola is working on completing the final drafts to his project to benefit "Save Kids With Cancer". The project involves a series of coffee table books featuring the work of over 200 photographers rounded up from all over the world.

It looks as though the changes have not hindered Loyola's creative ideas and philanthropic undertaking. Even better, he's forging ahead with more passion, offering hope and inspiring others, as far as his photographs and work can reach.”  (By MLF)

FOLLOW YOUR HEART

I'm a lover of photography and a lover of words. Occasionally I like to combine the two when I feel a photo calls for it such as this one. When I saw those sweet, beautiful hearts on a stick (I do not know how are they called actually) displayed on my friend Emy's room, I knew immediately what words to use.
